To death or To the death sirve para formar el superlativo de los adjetivos. De esta manera I'm tired to death: Estoy cansadísimo. Si un inglés dice "I laughed myself to death", está diciendo: "reí hasta más no poder / hasta reventar. "I was invited to a blow-out by my friend Paul and I stuffed myself to death: Fui invitado a una comilona por mi amigo Paul y me harté.

Dictionary.com nos dice que "to death" significa: to an extreme degree; thoroughly: sick to death of the heat.
